SOPFIM is looking for candidates to hold the position of Aerial Supervisor. The daily tasks consist of working in a cockpit alongside a pilot and acting as a monitor of the weather parameters and the quality of the spraying work performed by the spraying planes.
Who Are We?
Created in 1990, SOPFIM is a private, non-profit organization jointly administered by the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts and the Quebec forest industry. It is the only organization recognized in the biological control of forest pests in Quebec.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Base Manager, the Aerial Supervisor is responsible for the proper conduct of aerial insecticide spraying operations. In addition to coordinating the spraying operations, the Aerial Supervisor monitors the weather conditions in his or her flight area during the aerial work.
Specifically, you will:
- Ensure the monitoring of weather conditions in your flying area, before and during aerial work;
- Ensure quality control of the watering work in progress;
- Ensure constant radio communication between the aircraft and the base;
- Ensure communication with the spraying aircraft under your responsibility;
- Communicate the progress of processing operations and any changes to the Base Manager;
- Identify and inform the Base Manager of any observed situation;
- Provide air traffic surveillance in your area of operation.
Profile Sought
- Ability to work flexible hours (early mornings and late evenings on consecutive days);
- Having a healthy lifestyle;
- Be comfortable staying in the air for several consecutive hours;
- Have a good sense of direction;
- Be comfortable working in conjunction with the surveillance aircraft pilot;
- Have an excellent ability to adapt;
- Being rigorous;
- Ability to communicate at an advanced level in both English and French (mainly during radio communications).
Conditions Proposed by the SOPFIM team
- This is a 7-week position, more or less;
- Work environment at one of the following airports: Dolbeau, Saint-Honoré, Forestville, Mont-Joli, Ste-Anne-des-Monts, Gaspé, Pabos, Bonaventure, Charlo, Amos and Val d’Or;
- SOPFIM will cover the candidate’s travel and living expenses for the duration of his employment (hotel, expense allowance, car, computer equipment, etc.);
- An hourly wage of $29.00/hour;
- A guaranteed work schedule of 50 hours/week from Monday to Friday;
- On weekends, a minimum of 6 hours per day at time and a half is also guaranteed;
- The schedule for the position offered is established on shifts cut according to the possible operating windows during the day (the flight periods are planned by the base manager. They are of variable duration and are carried out according to the weather conditions);
- The work is done mainly on board a twin-engine aircraft (type C-310, C-337);
- We will prioritize candidates interested in returning over the years.;
- Start dates:
- Training period: 2 weeks in early May 2023 (work schedule Monday to Friday, 7 hrs per day, 35 hrs per week)
- Spraying program: Operations for the spraying program will begin in late May and end no later than July 4, 2023 (work formula 7 days a week, described in the proposed conditions).

Requirements
- The candidate must be available 7 days a week during the period of operations;
- Able to travel regionally for the duration of the operation;
- Possess a valid restricted operator certificate of aeronautical competence issued by Industry Canada;
- Conditional on the selected candidate passing the two pesticide handling exams (CD1). * Training given by SOPFIM
