This new aerial spraying program aims to protect government investments that have been made for nearly 30 years in private forests of less than 800 ha (plantations and thinning) and to develop expertise in the protection of small private forests where the planning and response planning are much more complex than in public forests.

The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks (MFFP) has mandated SOPFIM for the implementation of a six-year aerial spraying program. The work to determine eligible areas and owners began in the summer of 2017. Aerial sprays began in 2018 and  will be spread over five years.
